Vivian Campbell Says Cancer Won’t Slow Him Down

Just days after revealing his cancer diagnosis, Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell has reached out to fans, assuring them that he won’t let health problems hold him back.

“I posted about my cancer diagnosis (Hodgkin’s Lymphoma) on my personal FB page a couple of days ago,” Campbell wrote in his latest Facebook update. “Thank you to all who have offered support; I’m very, very touched by that. Be assured, however, that the Last in Line shows will still be happening in August — I have no intention of letting cancer slow me down. I look forward to seeing you all then.”

When revealing his diagnosis, Campbell pointed out that the type of cancer he has, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, has a recovery rate of more than 80 percent, and said he was feeling “spiffy” — although he warned fans who’d be turning out to see him play this summer that he’s sporting a new “aerodynamic hairstyle.”

As Campbell alluded in his statement, he’s got a busy summer ahead, with Def Leppard tour commitments on top of his new project Last in Line, which reunites the original Dio lineup minus Ronnie James Dio, who lost his own battle with cancer in 2010.

These must be trying times for Campbell. We applaud his continued commitment to his music and wish him a speedy recovery.
