The Band, Grateful Dead + ‘Dazed and Confused’ Vinyl Announced for Record Store Day

(Courtesy of http://ultimateclassicrock.com/) – Rhino Records will celebrate Record Store Day with special vinyl releases focusing on the Band, the Grateful Dead and the hits-packed ‘Dazed and Confused’ soundtrack. These limited edition albums will be available at participating independent record stores on April 20.

The Band’s in-concert finale ‘The Last Waltz’ sees a limited-edition 3-LP reissue on 180-gram vinyl, with just 5,000 copies to be made available. The 30-track release features a series of special guests who joined Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson on Thanksgiving Day 1976 to say farewell — including Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, and Neil Young, among others.

Dead fans can look for ‘Rare Cuts and Oddities 1966,’ a 2-disc offering available on CD as well as 180-gram vinyl that focuses on early live and studio tracks. Produced by Owsley Stanley, the set includes the first-known takes on songs that would become signature elements of the Grateful Dead’s setlists, including ‘Not Fade Away.’ This album was originally issued in 2005, but has long been out of print. Only 6,600 copies will be available on vinyl.

Finally, Rhino celebrates the 20th anniversary of ‘Dazed and Confused’ by issuing its original soundtrack on vinyl for the first time. Featuring 14 classic-rock favorites from the likes of Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kiss, Alice Cooper and ZZ Top, the soundtrack will be available as a 2-LP, individually numbered set on green vinyl. Only 5,000 will be available.
