(Ultimate Classic Rock) – Hard rock and hockey make a pretty good mix, as Kiss proved during the warmup and first intermission portions of the Jan. 25 matchup between the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks.
Billed as the first warm-weather outdoor hockey game held by the NHL at L.A.’s Dodger Stadium, the event kicked off this year’s four-game Stadium Series, which includes the Kings/Ducks contest as well as a pair of games at Yankee Stadium (featuring the New York Rangers facing off against the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 26, and the New York Islanders on Jan. 29), and a March 1 game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks at Soldier Field in Chicago.
“Los Angeles is the premier hub for sports and entertainment in this country, and we are honored to be part of an event that fuses both by rocking the first-ever outdoor NHL game in L.A.,” enthused Kiss co-founder Gene Simmons when the event was announced. “Fans can expect a spectacle at Dodger Stadium, similar to the one we will be creating at the Honda Center this season with our new Arena Football team, L.A. Kiss.”
The band’s Dodger Stadium appearance, which can be seen in the video above, helped mark the start of what promises to be a banner year for Kiss, including their long-awaited induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 10.
