Caramel Apple Fundraiser
The Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter is preparing for its annual Gorumet Double Chocolate Caramel Apple Fundraiser. The handmade apples will cost $13, and be available for delivery between February 7th and February 13th. They make ideal Valentine's Day gifts! Only 800 apples will be made, and when they're gone, they're gone. Fremont Lions Community Theatre Performance
The Fremont Lions Community Theatre presents Hoodwinked and Hoodooed, a production by Ray Sheers. Performances will be held at 7pm on February 9th, 10th and 11th, and at 2pm on February 12th, at the Fremont School Gym. Tickets will only be sold at the door. Habitat for Humanity Seeks Applicants
The Ottumwa Habitat for Humanity is seeking applicants for affordable housing, as they plan to build their 13th home. Applications are available at MidWestOne Bank on 116 W Main Street, across from the Amtrak Station. The deadline to apply is February 29th. Habitat For Humanity is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that seeks to help low-income families build adequate housing without profit or interest. Mahaska Wellness Monthly Walk
The Mahaska Wellness Coalition invites all Mahaska County residents to participate in its monthly "Step Along With Us" city walks. Each monthly walk starts at noon inside Penn Central Mall, across the hall from Napoli's. Walks during these winter months take place on January 6th, February 3rd and March 2nd. Noted Author to Visit Ottumwa
The Ottumwa Public Library is happy to welcome author Larry Baker to the library on February 16th at 6pm. The presentation will take place in the library’s meeting room at 102 W. 4th St. in Ottumwa. Larry’s presentation is titled, "Dumb Luck and Perseverance: An Iowa writer's long journey to publishing success." He is the author of THE FLAMINGO RISING (1997), ATHENS/AMERICA (2005), and most recently, A GOOD MAN (2009) which was nominated for “Book of the Year” by the Southeast Independent Booksellers Association in 2010. Larry and his wife live in Iowa City where he is an adjunct Assistant Professor for the University of Iowa, teaching American Social and Intellectual History of the Twentieth Century, and an adjunct instructor of American History at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.
Ottumwa Elks Club Sweetheart Dinner
The Ottumwa Elks Club Sweetheart Dinner & Dance takes place on Saturday, February 11th. Dinner starts at 5pm, featuring ribeye steak with all the trimmings. The music starts at 8pm with old-time rock 'n roll band Ro/Shambo. Tickets per couple are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Everyone is welcome! Visit the Elks Club or see any Elks Club member to pick up your tickets.
